Bad cinema- 'Kids'

The film 'Kids' is supposedly shocking, and perhaps it was at the time of release.
More than a decade later, viewing this film for the first time I was unphased by many of the goings on happening on screen.
Most of the 'shocking' parts have since been shown in other films and tv shows in many different ways. The only part that was 'shocking' for me, although not overly shocking, was the tampon scene.
The tone of the film is a rather despondent one leaving little hope for a happy ending. The ending shows that the behaviour depicted during the film will carry on in a vicious cycle of spreading sexually transmitted disease and causing many lives to be ruined.
The title 'Kids' shows that the characters are too young to be getting involved in the sex and drugs and alcohol that they are being exposed to and even exposing younger siblings to as shown in the scene where four young boys pass round a spliff.
